Top Secret Reverse Mortgage Site (Quiet, Tell No One)

There’s a consumer information site for California residents, particularly those in Los Angeles, who have an interest in reverse mortgages.

But this site, paid for with taxpayer dollars and allegedly devoted to the betterment of consumers, says I cannot quote the material on their site. “May be reprinted for non-commercial use if a credit line is included acknowledging the County of Los Angeles Department of Consumer Affairs.”

Now you might think, wait a minute, how can a government site dictate who can reprint information which is plainly in the stream of public information? Or, you might wonder, wouldn’t the public be better served if this information was posted everywhere? And how would it hurt if a commercial entity, say a lender, passed along consumer tips written by a governmental agency?

You’re welcome to visit the site, but don’t tell anyone I told you…. Important state secrets may be revealed.

Or, if you prefer to get information without restrictions, just go to: http://gov.ca.gov/index.php?/press-release/3761/

I read the “site”, and can’t see that it differs from any of the FHA/HUD rules (except the language rule). Seems to me to be a piece of fluff on top of what the FEDS already say are the rules. Just go to the AARP site - and read it’s stuff and it’s links to HUD

    Hi –

I agree. I don’t understand why there is any “requirement” or “restriction” regarding this information. What we have here is a government site, funded with public dollars, and everything on it should be absolutely available to the public for use as anyone elects.
